The sun beat down on the harsh landscape, the only sound heard for miles being insects crawling along the decayed buildings, shattered concrete and dead grass. On the top of the tallest building, an abandoned school, Bradley sat on the roof with arms around his knees, looking at the desolate landscape.

Looking away, he got up, pulling his old and battered duffel bag over his shoulder. His hand ruffled his dirty hair as he started to move. Moving is good.

- - - - - -
After walking for a fair while, he came upon a crooked house, the wood splintered and cracked. Squinting at the sky, he sighed as he looked for a relatively harmless way into the house. As the sun started its descent, he made a rough crow of triumph as he found a way in. Getting out his torch, which would only work after being bashed against something a couple of time, he went in, surveying the cracked house for anyone else. Surprisingly, it was empty.

Sighing, he walked around, checking to see if this was one of the rare houses that still had working electricity. Again, surprising, no electricity! Pouting in defeat, he went to set up camp in what maybe was a living room. In a past life. Or two.

Putting his torch in his mouth, he got out a pen and a map, crossing out places and looking it over. Sighing, he closed his eyes, imagination conjuring up a nice warm living room –

With Colin in it.

- - - - - -
After an almost restful night, considering the circumstances, it was time to set out again. Outside was another cloudless day, sun just as bright as before. Biting his lips, he pulled his thin jacket tighter as he searched for the – there it is! Putting Colin’s Bruins hat on, he was ready for another day of looking and walking.

On the way to – wherever he’s going – he freezes up. There are people in the distant. Actual people. And more than one! Taking a deep breath, he steadfastly ignores them as they cross paths, squeezing his duffel strap tightly as they give each other a wide berth.

He gradually relaxed, anxiety leaving as he mindlessly walked forward, mind voluntarily caught in fantasy.

Colin will be there. Somewhere. Alive.

Please.

The next few weeks – days? – in the same way. For a long time, time bled sluggishly. He kept track of the days in his own way, on his map.

Determined, he kept going even if he felt like he was going to faint, or if that little bit of doubt – that said what if he’s dead? What if it’s all for nothing? And what about KatieAngelTonyRupertEoinwhataboutthem? – because he couldn’t do that. Never.

With certain finality as he stomped over the forest floor, he thought if I don’t do this, there’s no point in living in this wasteland.

- - - - - -
Maybe he’s becoming a bit unhinged.  The lack of socialising, lack of anything substantial may be getting to him.

As he thinks of Colin’s face – thesmilethecheekboneseverythingColinColin – he hordes the affection and love that well up as if he’ll never experience it again. Goofing around on set, all that humour and pranks, making fun of Angel or Katie! The conventions, the fans (all another life), the sheer joy in doing what he loves!

The smile on his face contrasts with the shattered world around him, and in those moments, that’s when everything’s right.

- - - - - -
He’s so used to walking for miles these days, his legs complain when he doesn’t walk for more than a day. It’s sort of odd. But so is surviving in this – world. Or what’s left of it.

On his travels, he miraculously finds a building with electricity, in its past life, it might have been a government place. (Which would explain the electricity) And electricity means hot water!

After scouting the place (found a working kitchen and food! Score!) and editing his map, he proceeds to have the most refreshing shower of his life.

He manages to stay two days in the place with electricity, until the itch to go comes back.

Two days he could have spent walking.

- - - - - -
Seeing someone in the distance, he freezes, biting his lip. Something indescribable flew through his veins, like adrenalin (it’s usually anxiety, disappointment [why is it never Colin!?]) keeping him in place as the person came closer. The rest seems to happen in slow motion, as ruffled dark hair is seen, the person keeping their head down. His mind categorizes the person’s appearance – torn, scuffed jeans, green shirt, sneakers, bag – crooked

“Colin?!” He rasped out, voice hoarse from disuse as the person – Colin! Looks up, blue eyes widening in shock, mouth gaping. And Colin, he’s ragged and scruffy and beautiful. Gulping, he managed to whisper, “Col?” He fidgeted with his duffel strap, anxiety creeping in for every silent moment until he heard

“Bradley?” Colin whispered, eyes disbelieving. He nodded, chewing on his lips.

Next thing he knew, he was being hugged by a happy Colin, his mind still catching up on Colin. Like they’ve never even parted, he hugged back reflexively, relaxing in Colin’s tight hold. Sighing, he laid his head on Colin’s shoulder, happiness and relief flowing through him.

“Bradley,” Colin said against his neck, head moving to look at him, facing each other. “Can I?” Eyes filled with happiness/hope and insecurity flicked to his mouth, and he could tell Colin was biting the inside of his cheek.

He grabbed Colin’s hair, mouths connecting due to Bradley adjusting Colin’s head. Moaning, his hands ran through rough dark hair, and he never, ever wanted to let go. Colin bit at his lips, pulling and biting leisurely until he opened them. His body buzzed with pleasure/love/affection, circulating in his body like warm, slow honey. Panting, they parted, a hand resting on Colin’s lower back (yes!) while the other played with Colin’s hair. Colin’s hands drew patterns up and down his back as their breath mingled.

“I know where we can find a place with electricity,” he whispered, moaning lightly as hands brushed against his neck, eyes fluttering closed.

“Oh yeah?” Colin whispered back, lips brushing. Peeking under his eyelashes, he could see Colin’s amused and affectionate smile, even if he could feel and hear Colin’s smile anyway.

- - - - - -
After that, everything passed in a blur as they shared stories, anecdotes, bad pick-up lines and everything else. Showing Colin his maps, they picked at ideas for what to do once they get to the place with electricity (maybe they should name it?) interspersed with ideas and fantasies of saving the world and restoring civilisation so they could act again.

Maybe, he thought, we could go look for the rest of the cast and crew…

You should write more. I love your icons - don't stop those - but your fics are always so good to read.

Post-apocalyptic!searching!Bradley was awesome. I can see him as a wanderer/searcher type. I'm really glad he and Colin found each other. Them wanting to name the building - totally them.

I've been meaning to write more but Photoshop is a black hole of my creativity~ XD

Of course they'd find each other~ :D Well, in a post-apocalyptic world, 'place with electricity' is a bit of a mouthful...

Loved the scene and how Bradley had to keep going, no matter what. Well done.

Ugh:( Post-apocalyptic stories always make me so sad; this is no exception. Such joy in the reunion is great though!

As if I'd make a sad ending for these two... ♥

Well, except for that one idea I had where one of them dies. But I'm a sadistic writer sometimes.

Post-apocalyptic stories = ♥ ♥
